My Soul Is A Baby Content

Read
Read Psalm 131.  After you read this psalm, wait patiently for your response to the material.  Here is a link to the psalm in an online bible:

Think/Pray
How does the message of the psalm resonate with you?  Maybe the reality of your life is different from the speaker’s, but he gives voice to your desire.  Or maybe his message challenges your attitude or perspective.

Read it a second time, then share your response with God through prayer.  At first it will feel natural to pray in your own words, responding to what you’re reading, but as you keep going, stretch beyond this and pray using the words of the passage.  Although doing so might feel awkward at first, give yourself time to get used to it.  You’ll likely hear yourself praying statements you don’t genuinely mean and then feel your heart protesting.  But stay honest with God by acknowledging this to him.  Don’t be hard on yourself.  Just recall that God accepts you and loves you, then continue.

When you read this psalm one more time, let your meditation go a bit deeper.  Wait for deeper memories and thoughts.  These mirror more about you and your life.  Bring these insights into your prayer.

Live
Spend time in silence.  Imagine your soul as “a baby content in its mother’s arms.”  Even if you find your thoughts continuously running, practice silence.  Achieving silence doesn’t mean you have to focus on stopping your thoughts.  Just let them pass through, then bring your mind back to the image of resting.  Just enjoy being in the presence of God.
