From “Common Prayer: A Liturgy For Ordinary Radicals” (August 16th p. 402)

In 1989 a Solidarity-led government was elected in Poland, marking the beginning of a nonviolent victory over communism in Eastern Europe.

O Lord, let my soul rise up to meet you
as the day rises to meet the sun.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.  Amen.

Come let us sing to the Lord: let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.

Expose our broken systems Lord: save us by the power of your cross.

Psalm 80:1-3

Hear, O Shepherd of Israel, leading Joseph like a flock: shine forth, you that are enthroned upon the cherubim.
In the presence of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh: stir up your strength and come to help us.
Restore us, O God of hosts: show the light of  your countenance, and we shall be saved.

Expose our broken systems Lord: save us by the power of your cross.

1 Samuel 25:1-22        Matthew 27:45-54

Expose our broken systems Lord: save us by the power of your cross.

A quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer: “The church’s task is not simply to bind the wounds of the victim beneath the wheel, but also to put a spoke in the wheel itself.”

Prayers for Others

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Lord, use us to heal the broken systems.  Equip us with wisdom and foresight.  May our lives interrupt injustice with your grace.  Amen.

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you,
 wherever he may send you.
May he guide you through the wilderness,
 protect you through the storm.
May he bring you home rejoicing,
at the wonders he has shown you.
May he bring you home rejoicing,
once again into our doors.  Amen
