Scripture Reading: The text for today is Mark 15. You can engage the reading in this video.

Question to consider: Imagine being in the crowd outside Pilate’s residence. Though innocent of any actual crimes, Jesus has caused offence against both church and government and the result is that he was to be punished. The crowd was given a choice of who could live—Jesus or Barabbas? Many in the crowd would have identified with Barabbas, someone who had fought to overthrow the Roman oppressors. Some are thinking, “That could be me.” Caught up in the passion of the crowd, we call for Barabbas’ release and the result is that the one whose guilt was undeniable was freed and the one who was innocent was to be executed. A year passes and you reflect on the events of that day. What might you be thinking?

 Prayer

O God, by the passion of your blessed Son, you made an instrument of shameful death to be for us the means of life. May our lives be so transformed by his passion that we may witness to his grace; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. [Book of Alternative Services]
