St. Stephen's has a new hotel.....a BUG Hotel, that is!
A group of International Students from the KSS Outdoor Education Program are working on an environmental project and we were thrilled to be asked if we could host their Bug Hotel in our gardens!
You'll see the hotel on the railing at the front of the church and it will be there until the end of June.
Here's some information shared by this group of students:
"Dear community of Qualicum,
Insects create the biological foundation for all terrestrial ecosystems. They represent about 80% of Earth’s biodiversity and insects alone comprise over a million species. Without insects our lives would be vastly different. We wouldn’t have much of the produce that we enjoy and rely on without pollination services of insects, not to mention honey, silk and lots more.
Insects are also very important as first or secondary composers. Without insects dead animals and plants would accumulate in our environment and it would be messy indeed. People benefit in so many ways by sharing the world with insects and they are increasingly disappearing throughout the world. Insects are incredible and we need them so let this house be a symbol to remind you of the importance of insect and let’s appreciate them more!"
We are all hoping that some "guests" will be checking in soon!
