So ... what's a Remit? A "remittance" is something we send, and in the case of the United Church of Canada, a "Remit" is a response to a question or questions that congregations and Presbyteries send to the General Council, the national expression of the denomination. At present we have 5 questions that congregations need to answer related to a proposed restructuring of the church, 4 of which require a response before the end of June, 2017. The congregational response is a responsibility of the Church Board and will be voted on at the April meeting of the Board. Prior to that meeting, and to allow for a better understanding of the issues involved, we will be holding a gathering that is open to all congregants to examine the Remits and explore some of the ramifications of accepting or rejecting each Remit (the first of the 4 Remits are attached to this page). All interested congregants are welcome to attend. It is, of course, highly recommended that attendees read the Remits prior to the information meeting. :-)

More information can be found at the 42nd General Council website which can be located here.
